The Circle is excited to be offering our 2nd round of our year long fellowship program called "Partners in Reciprocity" (PiR) - a thoughtfully designed peer learning program dedicated to supporting philanthropic teams in a reorientation toward equity and justice. PiR is comprised of four gatherings, one for each season: Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall as well as four half day sessions: Courage, Renewal, Kinship and Integration.  PiR will culminate with a large gathering in Fall 2022 where the Collective Harvest will be shared with peers in the sector.

Partners in Reciprocity is a new way of working. While we aim to teach and deliver content (described below), the flow of the program will also be determined by what is needed by the participants and what the current context is calling for. The program will iterate and evolve throughout the year, and all of you will be a part of that process.

What you need to know:

THE PROGRAM:
  • PiR is a 12 month commitment: January 2021 - December 2021
  • PiR will consist of four virtual day-long gatherings:
    • February 1 2022 | Full Day | WINTER
    • March 8 2022 | Half Day | COURAGE
    • April 19 2022 | Full Day | SPRING
    • June 28 2022 | Half Day | RENEWAL
    • August 16 2022 | Full Day | SUMMER
    • September 13 2022 | Half Day | KINSHIP
    • October 25 2022 | Full Day | FALL
    • December 6 2022 | Half Day | INTEGRATION
  • Each session will have pre-reading and pre-work, and that will be sent out at least one week in advance of the session.
  • There is an expectation of personal reflection and work inside each organization in between each session. We suggest at least a full day per month be set aside for this purpose. This could be an organizational commitment (i.e. not just the participating team), and could take the form of board meetings, executive leadership meetings, staff retreats, etc.

PiR Faculty will offer availability to support participants. Participants will be required to reach out to faculty and coordinate time to meet if desired.

PiR participants are required to commit to the program in its entirety. Session attendance will be taken and participants with lower than 85% attendance will not complete the program.
TEAM COMPOSITION:
  • Each team should include a minimum of three people and a maximum of six people
  • At least one team member must come from either the organization Executive team or Board.
  • Existing PiR participants are welcome to join again and/or invite other organizational team members to participate.
* If you are stuck as to who should participate on your Organizational Team, consider the following:
  1. PiR is a hands-on program with the core intention of actioning learnings to directly impact strategy, practice, and policy. With that in mind we invite you to engage members of your staff who have the power and positionality to uphold that intention.
  2. You are invited to prioritize Black, Indigenous, and people of colour (BIPOC) staffers and board members - be sure to consider a balance between positional power and BIPOC staff - and ensure staff have the safety to participate in this program and power to integrate their learnings. In addition to PiR programming, we will host BIPOC only caucus spaces for the duration of the program.

PROGRAMMING DETAILS:

HERE ARE SOME OF THE THINGS WE HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH:
  • To create and implement specific actions that individuals and organizations can take to enter into reciprocal relationships with Indigenous individuals, organizations and communities.
  • To share what we learned through those actions, whether they went as planned or not. Sharing will be with PiR participants as well as more publicly within the sector.
  • To build the individual reflective practice necessary to undertake shared action towards reciprocity.
  • To teach, create, and share new approaches, tools, and methodologies that participants can use as they travel along a pathway of reciprocity.

HERE ARE SOME OF THE TYPES OF THINGS YOU WILL LEARN:
  • Models and Frameworks for working with a systems approach in complexity - Cynefin and Two Loops
  • The Circle’s Four Spheres of Influence
  • Four Fold Practice
  • Decentering whiteness. Embodied work and somatic practice.
  • The Work (Byron Katie)
  • Reciprocal and relationship-based models of leadership
  • Shared sense-making

EACH SESSION WILL INCLUDE:
